Sunday morning, another great breakfast. Now to the bit that the boys liked and some of the girls liked too - but in a different way. Mud, men and boys seem to go together. This girl thought that the morning adventure tackling the challenge of high slopes and deep puddles was certainly an excellent training ground to test out the vehicle and the driver. And, Charlie the sheep dog had a chance to stretch his legs and two boys ran off into the distance to climb heather covered slopes and collect souvenirs. Toilet facilities were limited to standing sideways or squatting behind fir trees, depending on preference whilst more serious needs were met by picking up a shovel on one hand and walking off to a private spot swinging a roll of kitchen towel nonchalantly in the other.
Going along with a group who shared the same sense of adventure and daring was exhilarating and fun. But what really made the weekend for us was having Lee along. Driving bonnet first into the running torrent of water in a Welsh stream without Lee's guidance about the depth of the water, the likelihood of the vehicle's response and whether there were any boulders lurking unseen would normally have pulled us up short. All the way through his support and direction brought a certain confidence to our travels and took us to places that we would not have attempted alone. Lee was really only noticeable by the smile and nod he gave in encouragement. Yet without him the weekend would not have been possible.
Something about Nick’s hospitality.
